Full Stop

This painting was the second city nocturne I created. I was experimenting with toning canvases in different colors; in this case, I used Perylene Red. Unfortunately, the color is so intense that I needed to create an entire underpainting to cover and overpower the base layer. I let the red show through in the lower portion of the painting, and you can still see it in small areas on the upper part. I took the reference photo while driving as a passenger. I decided to angle the scene for compositional interest.
