Friday Night Rush Hour

I wanted to capture the city's energy at dusk in a few nocturne paintings. I was particularly interested in exploring the visual differences between artificial lighting and natural lighting. This artificial light differed as it came from multiple sources and reflected off the cars' metallic surfaces creating sharp shadows and strong highlights. This created painting challenges as I did not want the painting to convey a cold, manufactured feeling. To counteract this feeling, I used warm grays and tones throughout.
