Too Much Energy On An Oppressively Hot Day (Intuition)

Although this painting looks benign at first glance, on closer inspection, there's an ominous feel as though something is about to happen. The overall scene is very panoramic, including the width of the river and its surrounding areas. The feeling of this scene is one of a heavy atmosphere that occurs when it's very humid and muggy. I wanted this to serve as a backdrop for portraying an unassuming event of a man and his dog cooling themselves in the river. But there's something beyond the canvas that the dog and his owner are looking at; maybe an incoming storm. This creates tension in an otherwise everyday event.
